Heaven

This collection includes 45 memory verses about heaven. Over the course of 15 weeks, you’ll memorize Scripture on various aspects of heaven, such as “What Is Heaven?”, “Who Is in Heaven?”, and “What Will We Do in Heaven?” We pray you’ll be informed, convicted, and comforted as you hide these riveting verses in your heart.

Scripture speaks of heaven in two distinct ways: the intermediate heaven and the eternal heaven. When believers die, they enter what is traditionally called the "intermediate state," a transitional period occurring after our death and before our future resurrection (Luke 23:43; 2 Cor. 5:8). We usually have this heaven in mind when we say, “My believing friend is in heaven now.”

In the intermediate heaven, Christians rest in Christ’s presence and know great peace and joy (Phil. 1:23). But an even greater future glory awaits! After Christ’s return, our bodily resurrection, and the final judgment, the Lord will create a new heaven and earth (Rev. 21:1). God will unify or join heaven and earth in this new creation. In the eternal heaven, we will dwell with God forever (Rev. 21:2-4), a prospect that thrills our hearts and uplifts our spirits. 

As you memorize the verses contained in this course, you’ll notice that some passages do not clearly indicate whether the eternal heaven or the intermediate state is in view. Due to these interpretive challenges, we have chosen not to distinguish between the two in most of the included commentary.
